This self-paced course was developed by Asian Captive Elephants Standards (ACES) for all stakeholders holding an interest in the elephant-based tourism industry. This may include travel associates, tour guides, government tourism representatives and staff from non-government organisations. Participants can use knowledge gained from this course to improve their tour guide skills, make informed business decisions, and design their own marketing strategies and campaigns.
The course covers key issues associated with Asian elephants throughout Southeast Asia, such as:
- the currents threats facing wild Asian elephant populations;
- ecological and cultural benefits of a captive elephant population;
- key issues impacting the elephant-based tourism sector; and
- strategies and methods to improve, market and communicate the benefits of responsible and ethical elephant-based tourism to visitors.
